I have MP3 and DAT video files which I was running on windows so these will run on Linux or I have to do something extra. As I am assuming that those files will run in MPlayer.

If you have a slow link and you still have the RedHat CD's then it should be on one of those.

There is a little confusion that gcc-3.2.2-5.i386.rpm on the cd is of 4.4 MB while on the ftp site you already provided is gcc-3.2.2-5.src.rpm of 18.5 MB. So which one I should install

You can use the redhat package manager. The fact that it isn;t there though tells me that you didn't install everything.

Instead of compiling MPlayer, you can also get the rpm-file. For redhat 9, you can find it at http://freshrpms.net/. You also have to get a couple of other packages, but you'll have too look at the dependencies to know which ones.

You are right Mobassir I have to install development but I am unable to do so as my second CD is not working. I am trying to get another copy of RH9 from Lahore but it is not available on all shops. When I will be able to get the new copy and will install the dev pack so then I will be able to address this issue. Sorry for this delay from my side.

I have just installed development tools from 2nd cd and then installed MPlayer with the following command,

./configure --enable-gui

Now from where I can run the Player or how to create a short cut of it?

did you do anything after configure? If not then you didn't read the documentation close enough.
