How do you start Afterstep

I have just compiled and installed Afterstep. How do I start afterstep? I put "exec afterstep" in the .xinitrc file and of course, I get an error from the xserver that there is no such command called afterstep. Any help?

try this command:

find /usr -iname "after*"

that's assuming that the binary that gets installed is something like afterburner or after-something.

if not, you may try to look at the makefile in the download directory and look at the install rule to see which files got installed where assuming that installing from source had a "make install" command in the installation process.

It didn't find anytthing. I have searched around and a few other people have this problem as well. It's really annoying, I think that I will join the Afterstep usergroup.

I just finished compiling it last night and there is an "afterstep" binary in /usr/local/bin plus a few others that are associated. Oh yeah, once and only once did I start it using .xinitrc in my home directory.
