how can I su - in kubuntu.
It asks me for passwd and I only have one which am using for sudo. but It tells me that is the wrong passwd.

You don't "su -" in K/Ubuntu. There's no root user. Everything is done via sudo.

if you want to be able to su, first go to a command prompt
and type: "sudo passwd" w/o the quotes, then type your new password.

then you should be able to su...

If also plan to use kdesu, then add the lines below to your /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde-profile/default/share/config/kdeglobals or ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals.

When I installed Kubuntu for a friend, I even went as far as disabling the admin groups privileges to run all commands using sudo.
