Hotkeys for Grub

Searching gave me no answers.

Is it possible to associate a key on the keyboard (say W) to one of the OS choices (say Windows) in Grub? If so, how? I want to set up a dual-boot WinXP/Linux setup on a computer with a braille display, one of my blind friends wants to try Linux, and it would be nice if she could operate the Grub menu in a sensible way.

I've thought of having one OS option at the top and one at the very bottom, but one can't really be sure which OS will boot until one can see the login screen, so a hotkey setup would be better.

I did some google searching and read the manpages on grub and related topics and would say it is not capable of that. My only thought would to be have the bootmenu display for 30 secs. Rem out the hiddenmenu option so the menu is always displayed. Then only use two items to boot. One for Windows and one for Linux. Then the user can up or down arrow once to be sure to be on the right option. If the default will be say Windows and is the second option then the user needs to hit the up arrow and then enter to boot. About the only thing I can say to do.

Its been a long time since using Lilo but it might be able to do it. Reason I say this is you can name the boot option as a letter and then when lilo boot prompt comes up hit that chacarter and hit enter.

Grub could do the same maybe but never messed with it in grub command mode.

That was somewhat my conclusion as well, after some searching, but asking doesn't hurt. I've never used Lilo, but I'll look into it. I'll post an update if I succeed with a hotkey setup in some way.
