High-resolution text-only terminal?

I've been using Mandrake 9 recently, after trying a couple of other linuxes (linices?). I've noticed that the text-only ttys (such as what you get before X starts, or with ctrl+alt+f1) seem to be at a much higher resolution than the ordinary 80x25.

Can anyone tell me how this is done? That is, if I wanted to include it in a custom-built linux system, what package, program, or library would I need?

Thanks

if framebuffer is enabled in your kernel add this line to lilo.conf and reinstall lilo

vga=795

I use 795 on my laptop and it is just an example. It may be to large of a screen size, or too many colors for your system. (1280x1024x64k)
793 = (1280x1024x256)
check these others out
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
# vga=791
# Normal VGA console
# vga = normal
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
# vga=791
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k
# vga=790
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256
# vga=773
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x64k
# vga=788
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x32k
# vga=787
# VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x256
# vga=771
# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x64k
# vga=785
# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x32k
# vga=784
# VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x256
# vga=769

If you use the wrong one you may be in for trouble, make sure you have a boot floppy that works. You might want to try them from the boot prompt first to see which one works best before setting up lilo.
like this

linux vga=791

798 works but I'm not sure what size it is...

Ok I checked it out, and it's 1280x1024x24k
