High-Definition DVDs


I recently read about these and saw a player in a circuit city ad for about $500. Is there linux software currently of playing these DVDs? I heard they are 1080p how cool is that?

HD DVD is a very new technology. I seriously doubt that it would be supported yet. Hopefullt soon though. Takes time for it to get into linux because things need to be reverse engineered.

That's the Toshiba HD-A1, I believe the model is.

The movies are encoded in 1080p but the Toshiba player outputs 720p/1080i max. It can also upconvert DVDs to HD resolutions but will output upconverted DVD video via HDMI.

But I digress....
