Hidden History files and objects.

I was poking around in my hidden directories and I located a folder with quite a few interesting items. the directory is in my home dir ".macromedia/Flash_Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys". I can see that these files appear to be just setting for flash objects from various sites. However there are some things in there I really don't want to leave in there,if you get my drift.

I'm going to delete them, but I was wondering if anyone else knows of weird little hidden history objects like this one in other popular Linux applications. I only caught the folder because I was using Unison to upload my home dir.

Well, there's certainly the ~/.thumbnails directory that you might want to check from time to time if you enjoy exchanging pictures with your girlfriend and don't want your wife to enjoy them too...

You might also like to do this:
play something with flash.
R-click in the flash window-> Settings -> Click folder icon ->How much information can be stored on your computer?
Set it to 0kB or 10kB

Wow.. thats a really good idea. Especially when I'm watching 2 hour long videos and I keep finding the entire video in FLV format in my /tmp folder, taking up space.

Well, not quite.
The video may well still be cached in /tmp but it will usually be deleted when you close the flash player window. If it is not cleaned up then, it should be when you logout.

What the above (Post #4) stops is the storage of "flash cookies" which can be as intrusive and unwelcome as the browser-based ones.

.. There was a thread about them on ./ (IIRC) a while ago, but I did not bookmark the link. Maybe you should read up on them.
