help with ucd-snmp and ethereal

I am having trouble getting ucd-snmp installed. it needs libcrypto.so.0.9.6.1 which is in the openssl-0.9.6b-4.i386.rpm. trying to install this and it needs libcrypto.so.4 which is in the openssl-0.9.7a-2.i386.rpm. when i try to install the last mentioned rpm, i get this error:

openssl = 0.9.7a-5 is needed by (installed) openssl-devel-0.9.7a-5

but, package openssl-0.9.7a-5 is already installed. i have the latest version of opennssl installed also (openssl-0.9.7b.tar.gz, which i ran to test). ultimately i want to install ethereal - all of this other stuff are the dependencies of ethereal. is it just me or is this really hard?

thanks ahead,

m
