Help with Sendmail

Ok, I'm out of ideas...Maybe someone here could help me. Here is my problem.

Somehow my sendmail.cf file turn into 0 byte and I can't start sendmail. So, I recreated sendmail.cf by running

m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf

then restart sendmail.

the new sendmail.cf fixed the problem. But, now all the outgoing email show the wrong email address. The sender address show cojo@mail.domain.com instead of cojo@domain.com. What am I missing on my setup? Here are my hosts and local-host-names:

hosts:
127.0.0.1 mail.domain.com mail localhost.localdomain localhost

local-host-names:
domain.com
mail.domain.com

As far as I know you don't need 'mail.domain.com' in local-host-names because it is already in your hosts file

Try removing it see if it works

Hi cojo

Still trying to work this out for you, where does the word 'mail' come from is it the name of your machine ?

This is my /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 server.mydomain.net server localhost.localdomain localhost

Server is the name of my machine this matches /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=server

What does this command give you ?

Code:
]$ hostname
Mine answers 'server'

Might be worth a look at etc/hosts and etc/sysconfig/network

Mike M,

mail is the name of my server.

when I type hostname at the prompt. I get mail.domain.com

My network file contain

networking = yes
hostname = mail.domain.com

So, I changed it to match your. But, the problem still exist.....Thanks for trying to figure this out for me....John

Did you reboot the machine after making changes to /etc/sysconfig/network ?
