as I'm getting no help on kde-forum.org I thought I might try here:

my main problem is that I can't change the menubar. I can't delete any icons or move them or anything. only time it changes is when sometimes I install a programme and the link is added into the menu. whatever I do in the control centre, nothing happens to the actual menu.

Right click on the KDE "Start Button" choose Menu Editor.

now thats where probs start. whatever I change there doesn't happen in the real world. it just doesn't care.

There are several threads/suggestions at Ubuntuforums.org about this problem. Could be that the best approach would be to give those suggestions a shot, and then if necessary go to the LQ ubuntu forum here (if you list those things that you have tried that didn't work it might give someone a clue).

In fact, if you find the solution, what would really be cool would be if you posted that solution in both forums (LQ & Ubuntuforums).

Don't remember what distro, but I ran into this problem once-upon-a-time. Created a new user and menu edit worked fine there. No idea what the problem was.
