Help starting VNC service

Hello all

I have had trouble getting VNC installed on this system, but I think I have finally done it (thru Synaptic). In Synaptic it says I have:

tightvncserver
tightvnc-server
vnc-common
vnc4server
vncserver
xvnc4viewer
xvncviewer

All installed ok.

But i dont know how to actually start it... any help there would be good.

I found the link to xvncviewer ok in my 'K' menu, and it starts when i click on it. However, when I input the target IP address instead of then asking for the password the box just resets...nothing happens.

Thanks all, best Linux forum I have come across!!

Hong

it's the vncserver (or vnc4server) program you need to use to start the server half of VNC. see the vncserver manapge for full usage details. also don't get caught by the ~/.vnx/xstartup problem! (you'll find out...!)

Ok, I typed
Code:
vncserver start
and it worked, I set a password and such.

I go to Xp box and I can ping the IP.

But upon launching the VNC Viewer on the Xp box, and entering the IP, it says connection refused.

Is Knopppix's built in firewall blocking it? If so, how do I unblock it?

Also, where is this vncmanapge you were referring to? Dont get caught...sounds scarey
