Help Me Configure XFCE

I just started useing XFCE but i realize i have a few applications i want to run right when i run the startx command. Would this be configured in xfce or is this something i configure in .xinitrc or .xsession

If someone could point me to a faq about this that would also be helpful
Thanks

You can place symbolic links or scripts in ~/Desktop/AutoStart that will be run when XFCE starts.

I think you can also modify ~/.xinitrc to make programs run when you start XFCE, but perhaps someone else can help you with this?

I hope this helps

No, the Autostart folder is in the hidden .kde folder in your home directory. If you don't have KDE installed, you don't have it (and it probably wouldn't be much help if you're using XFce anyway).

Unless there's another solution built in to XFce itself, my solution would be to:

1) write a little script that starts the various programs before starting XFce4;

2) change your ~./xinitrc or ~./XSession file to point to the script.

This is the general procedure I use to start a bunch of apps when I start Openbox3 (except I don't use an ~/.xinitrc or ~/.XSession; my script is run from the normal openbox.desktop file found in the /etc/X11/Sessions folder).

Hope this helps.

I assume you are using startxfce4 to start up xfce. Starxfce4 is a script which runs ~/.xfce4/xinitrc if it exists; otherwise, it will run {path-to-xfce4}/etc/xfce4/xinitrc; you can check by opening starxfce4 in an editor (it's a script). You can change the behavior or xfce4 startup by putting the default xfce4 xinitrc file in ~/.xfce4 and then editing it.

The default script is set to execute things in ~/Desktop/Autostart. If the directory does not exist, just create it. Also, you hav to make sure the things in the directory are executable.
