Help!!


Just compiled a new kernel.................everything went well until...........booting into it. I get Kernel Panic......unable to mount Root fs


any insight is appreciated

can you provide alittle more info into exactly how you went about doing all of this. ie did you remember to update the lilo settings.....

Followed the Mandrake howto.
get this:

Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:01

have you tried using the boot disk that you might have made at the time of install? Other than that I would not know anything else to do but reinstall.

Old Kernel

Still able to boot into the old kernel
When I boot into the new kernel I get

Append a "root=" boot option
Kernel panic:VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:05

Virtual memory file system support or (former shm fs) was giving me the kernel panic error. What I did was disable this feature in the kernel and then recompile the kernel.......

Probably is not a great advice, but i try: LinuzRulz have you selected the ext2 fs support, not as module, but builted-in, in the kernel menuconfig?

Screw it

Have tried all of these things....................thanks for the help.
