Having trouble compiling nfs-utils on debian stable

hi. im trying to compiling nfs-utils on debian. after doing configure i get this error message.

Code:
checking for RPCSECGSS... configure: error: Unable to locate information required to use librpcsecgss.
If you have pkgconfig installed, you might try setting environment
       variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH to /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
so i went ahead and tried setting it as the enviroment variable by doing

Code:
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
i used echo to verify that it did indeed change the variable and cd to /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig to make sure it existed. After doing that and trying to do ./configure again i still get the same error. I tried googling the error and didn't get anything. I googled librpcsecgss and figured that gss is related to it and tried installing that but i still get the same error. I've also search for librpcsecgss on my system to see if it was maybe in an unusual place but didn't find it. Im not positive what else i should try. Also i used synaptic to install the nfs-kernel package and nfs-common. Is nfs-common and nfs-util the same thing? i didn't think so but was not positive. My ultimate goal is to set up an nfs server on this machine to do a NFS install. Thanks for any guidance in advance.

librpcsecgss is not yet part of debian stable, you will most probably need to compile it from surce before compiling nfs-tools.
Grab the source from here: http://www.citi.umich.edu/projects/n...ss-0.12.tar.gz

thanks. I got that installed (needed to install two other things first but got it installed. So I should have everything installed in order to install nfs-utils. I did the usual ./configure && make and did checkinstall -D but i get this message.

Code:
idmapd.o(.text+0x5e7): In function `main':
/home/jeff/src/program/nfs-utils-1.0.8/utils/idmapd/idmapd.c:348: undefined reference to `nfs4_set_debug'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [idmapd] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/jeff/src/program/nfs-utils-1.0.8/utils/idmapd'make[1]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/jeff/src/program/nfs-utils-1.0.8/utils'
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1

**** Installation failed. Aborting package creation.

Restoring overwritten files from backup...OK

Cleaning up...OK

Bye.
so now i am stuck. Usually checkinstall ask you if you want see a log to see why it failed but it didn't ask me and i can't find where checkinstall keeps there logs. I included the above make statements because i believe they are the clue to why it failed but im not intimate enough with make to kno what they mean. Does anyone know why the install failed from the make statements? Thanks for any replies in advance.

Okay, let's go back one step.

What exactly are you trying to do? Do you want to set up an NFS client (to mount shared drives to this computer) or an NFS server (to export drives to be mounted by other computers)?

If you want a NFS client, I think you don't need to install anything, just add the mount points to /etc/fstab and mount them.

If you need to set up a server, you can follow this guide:
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/re....en.html#s-nfs

Basically just install package nfs-kernel-server, set up the exported directories and you are done. Alternatively you can use package nfs-user-server, which is more configurable and easier to debug.
