Is it just me, or are GTK apps (such as Mozilla Firebird with GTK + XFT) a little slow on my Athlon 1800XP w/ 512mb SDRAM? Are there any other alternatives to GTK and QT to help make these apps run a little faster? Thanks
do yuo have a full graphics driver, or a builtin... what I mean is are you using x w/ framebuffer, x w/ the builting nvidia or ati driver, or X with the accelerated nvidia or ati driver
I know stuff runs very very slow on the x builting nv driver even in 2d, and framebuffer is always slow.
Hi. Yep, I have a Geforce2GTS and I'm using Nvidia's latest driver. Could that be the culprit? I'm also using the frame buffer while in console in Slackware 9.1
that card is good (I have one in an older box) the latest nvidia drivers would be a benefit, not a problem.. go toa terminal whiel in x and type glxgears, tell us the framerate, that will tell us how well it is working.. if they are working than the problem lies elseware.
Running glxtest on my computer gives around ~1300 fp5s. That sounds like it's working. When I said that GTK apps feel slow, I meant the responsiveness of the them feel slow vs. using motif type applications.. if that makes sense. For example, I would consider the program responding really fast if you were to open the file menu in Mozilla, and just move your mouse back and forth between the different menus without any delay.
