GRUB hanging at bootup (Fedora Linux, dual boot Windows XP)
I'm experimenting with Fedora on my computer (dual booting for the first time with windows Xp pro), and everying was going fine during the installation untill it said I was done, and I removed the disk, and rebooted. Then when it got to the end of the BIOS screen, it just said GRUB at the bottom of the screen, and stopped. It just stopped, my keyboard did't even respond (execpt for ctrl+alt+del). I deleted GRUB from the mbr and got back into Windows. I have tried installing GRUB into /boot, but it just goes directly into windows without ever showing the GRUB screen. Maybe there is something I forgot to do, etc. Could you please help me?

If you want to use Grub for a bootloader then you need to load it into the /mbr. When you installed Fedora and you got to the part about loading a bootloader, what did you do?? You could boot your computer with the Fedora CD1 in and go through the process again and when you get to the bootloader section, choose Grub and install to mbr. THen when you are done and its time to reboot it should boot into the Grub boot loader with a choice for Linux and a choice for DOS (windows).
Sorry is I wasn't that clear, I just don't know how else to explain it. When I use the master boot record, it boots up, and on the screen when your computer first turns on, below all the informations about ram, hard drives, etc., it says GRUB, and it just stays at that. But I'll try again, and see what happens.
Boot up with RedHat installation and type: Linux rescue
Once you have an access to the shell
chdir to /mnt/sysimage/boot
type grub and wait a minute or two, grub will verify your devices. And if everything is ok you will have a grub> prompt
at the grub prompt type the following:
root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0)
Try that, i had the SAME problem, iand it works now.
I just had a problem with my bios not recognizing the boot partition, since it was past the 1024th cylinder. I moved the boot partition to the beginning of the drive, and now I'm golden. Thanks for all your help!
