Something went wrong with your bootloader installation. I would suggest you boot the Red Hat (or any Linux) CD, google "bootinfoscript", go to the site and download the script after reading the instructions and then run it. If you don't understand the output (results.txt file), post it here.
Red Hat 5.5 is not the most current release. If you are not paying for it, you may be better off using the free version, CentOS. If you are paying, you would be better off contacting Red Hat for help.
