Grub - error 15, i missing something silly

Just completed my kernel upgrade, as per DrOzz's guide........wont boot, i guess i am missing something silly, here is my grub.conf

default=0
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Red Hat Linux (2.4.20-8)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi
initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8.img
title Red Hat Linux (2.6.3-2.1.196)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.3-2.1.196 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi
initrd /initrd-2.6.3-2.1.196.img
title DOS
rootnoverify (hd0,3)
chainloader +1

i basically just copied the entry for the old kernel and pasted it with appropriate edits as seen above, neither kernel will boot, this is the error....

root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.3-2.1.196 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0x106805]
initrd /initrd-2.6.3-2.1.196.img

Error 15: File not found

when i did an '/sbin/grub-install' it wasnt made clear what the entire command was so i did a '/sbin/grub-install /dev/hda'

i'm sure i've buggered up something simple, have i?

Well, do you have your initrd file at <boot mount point>/initrd-2.6.3-2.1.196.img ?

update

well, i re-installed everything - the purpose of this installation was to gain the skills to upgrade kernels, so no great loss.......this time i can boot into the old kernel, but not the new one....any ideas anyone?
