Graphic Startup problem in Fedora Core 1

Hi i just updated some of my libs and such to install GIMP2, and i got GTK+ to install as well. But after i shutdown and restarted my computer i ran into a tiny issue.......the graphic interface isnt working. It says that Xserver is running on 0 and i can to Alt+Crtl+(F1-F7) to chance servers. So i go to server 5, which will bring up the regular console.

And from there i type XFree86, then startx and the only that shows up is a big X that represents my mouse. And thats working fine, but nothing of the other graphical stuff is. I know my apt is working thankfully and so is everything else.

I finally got GIMP2 to work and now this =(>.<)=

Any suggestions as to how i fix this lil issue that GTK is giving me?

first option, at the console , type #gdm or #kdm instead of startx.
Doesnt work, try to see the services enabled at runlevel 5.

Well i got KDE to run when i go to the console i typed "kdm" and KDE popped up but i prefer Gnome or at least have the abillity to switch between the 2. How do i configure GNOME and the GTK2 files? Like i said i installed all of the new GTK2 and GLIB2 files into /usr and after doing that and installing GIMP, GNOME stopped working.

I think that by installing GTK2 into /usr GNOME isnt able to access the new files. How do I change the setting so it will run again?

Question

Well as such I have no idea about that, but if you are able to log into kde, just search how to make kdm or xdm your default dm(display manager). You can log into gnome with kdm or xdm as well.(atleast that was the case in mandrake 9.1 where there were a host of display managers)
