gnome vs KDE

i just installed Ubuntu 10.04. as expectede i only have the Gnome interface. i want to check out KDE because i have been told that it is graphically more polished but in terms of use its not really any differrent other than KDE allows you to auto-start various apps like my blogging client and such that Gnome ignores autostart settings for and you merely have to click on what you want to use. how do i get the KDE?

Have you checked with the package manager? In the menus somewhere---might be called "add/remove software", "software center", or something like that.

Open Synaptic package manager, scroll down to meta-packages, I think. Look for just KDE or KDE-Desktop. One of those installs everything related to KDE.

You will then have to select it to be your default desktop manager.

Furthermore: you might still encounter apps that use Gnome infrastructure, and those will still continue to work. ("Welcome to Linux!")
