gimp mpeg

does anyone know how to get the "split video to frames" option of the gimp to work? I am using the rpm from redhat and rh version 9.0.

gimp supports simple jpeg and gif animation and a lot more (using the xanim plugin) but as far as my knowledge there is no plugin for mpeg.If there is one you better check out from their homepage-which is

i installed the xanim-loki thing from the link gimp gives you when you get an error, I had to fix xa_audio and xa_ipc to get them to compile so I don't know if that is my problem, but I tried an avi with the "any xanim readable" option and it still didn't work. can someone tell me how to get the xanim option to work or compile without add code to those files it.
