giFT - one year limit on Gnutella. Now impossible?

I've been using giFT along with the usual Gnutella, OpenFT, and FastTrack.
I haven't used it for a while now, and yesterday when I tried to fire it up, got this message.
Code:
*** GIFT-FATAL: unable to start 'Gnutella', no idea why (hopefully the protocol provided some info)
*** Often times more information can be found in the log file or with the -v command line switch.
Opened ~/.giFT/giftd.log and get
Code:
[02:22:10] *** GIFT-ERROR:
Your version of the Gnutella plugin is more than 1 year
old. In order to protect the Gnutella network from
older programs, this plugin has deactivated itself.
So I thought a simple uninstall of gift-gnutella, and then updating to the newest version would do it. wrong
I later uninstalled anything relating to gift. This includes gift, gift-openFT, gift-gnutella, gift-fasttrack, giftui, and giftoxic. I then, using yum and the dag repo, reinstalled gift using
Code:
yum --enablerepo dag install gift gift-gnutella gift-openft
and have came to found that I am getting the same error even now!
I haven't even had FC3 on this laptop for a year now, so I doubt that the plugin is actually a year old. Is there something I'm missing?

EDIT: Here's a yum list gift so there's some exact version numbers in there
Code:
Installed Packages
gift.i386 0.11.6-1.1.fc3.rf installed
gift-gnutella.i386 0.0.9.2-1.1.fc3.rf installed
gift-openft.i386 0.2.1.4-1.1.fc3.rf installed
and from looking at gift's sourceforge page, gift-gnutella was released in 2004, but not in January at all.
and I'm not sure how gift-gnutella gets it's date, but here's my system clock and date
Code:
Sun Jan 9 02:54:38 EST 2005

Ok. First off, you should check your versions again. Your copy of giFT is almost a year old... actually, so is your gnutella, and openft is about 4 months old. If those are the 'updated' versions that yum gave you then yum is worse than I thought.

You should grab APT for Fedora. It's got a better package-base and the packages are updated more often.

As for your computer whining about the date. Check both your BIOS clock what linux says the time is. These two don't always match(certain linux programs are in the habit of setting the BIOS clock to Greenwhich Mean Time and then calculating the time based on your timezone).

At any rate, your giFT stuff IS outdated and should be updated either by downloading the RPMs from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gift/ or via APT(or YUM if they actually update their packages)

I wasn't assuming it was new because I used yum to update it, I was assuming it was new because the version numbers on the sourceforge site had the same version numbers that I had listed as the newest. Either way, there was an update for the Gnutella plugin today on gift's sourceforge page. I've got apt installed but don't use it quite as often. I'll have to look into the version numbers and all later.
Thanks for the reply

Same problems

I am running Debian sid. And I use Apollon as a frontend to the GiFT plugins. Gnutella was just fine till a few days ago and now it tells me its a year old. I wont bother quoting the error messages.. they are exactly the same as in the first post. I upgraded all packages related to giFT using apt, and turns out I already have the latest ones. Nothings wrong with System date. Have checked all the config files in the home directory and also /etc hoping to find a date parameter to be fixed but in vain. For now I have disabled gnutella but I see no breakthrough to this. If anybody has any bright ideas do let us know.
And yeah.. am not changing my system date just get a gift plugin running. There has to be a smarter way!

i removed first the gnutella plugin from apollon then removed it from synaptic
i downloaded then a new version from
http://hal.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de/deb...aylee_i386.deb
then i install it and added it to apollon and it works now

you assumed that because you updated with synaptic it was the latest version. Don't. As I said before look at the project's website. ALWAYS look at the project's website. In fact, do so before you post here. I'm not a mod or admin or anything but your posts here were entirely frivolous. Rather than look in the first logical place, the project's website, you just wasted time asking for help here... Oh, and heema's link is a link to an official mirror site. the package is availible from the gift sourceforge page which I linked to in my first post, and should have been your FIRST destination for finding a solution.

er. I didn't use synaptic, and I was looking at rpm -q AND at the yum.log seeing WHICH VERSION it installed for me.
So, the only next thing I could have done was compile from source, which I didn't care to do.

Me not agree.. I had looked into the sourceforge site when this error occurred. The version then was 0.0.9.2. I compiled but the error persisted. The new version was put up only 9th of this month. I believe the error started popping up much before the new version was up.

Anyhow.. Its nice to have gnutella back in my life
