Getting tape drive status using MTGETIO in ioctl

OS is REDHAD Linux enterprise 4 64bit

Tape is HP LTO 2

Using ioctl with function MTGETIO to get the current status
of the tape drive. It seems to work but the results are suspect.
The reason I say this is the drive type comes back as 114 and
the same drive under unix gives an 8. Therefore I am not sure
if the status register is correct. Does anyone have the status
bits that HP LTO 2 would return such as beginning of tape, on-line
and end of tape or where I can get them on the internet?
