Hey all, I've been around a lil bit, and I just installed gentoo on my computer the other day.
So heres the dealieo, I was trying to connect to other computers on my network, and I got impatient, and started cycling through the consoles, and everything started moving really really slow, so I did a hard restart, and when it booted back up, I could start up gnome with root, but not with my user account. I had been in a user account when I had previously been running gnome.
I have created another user account, and that doesn't start up gnome either.
Using vt 7
(WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:2:0:1) found
(EE)fglrx(0): incompatible kernel module detected - HW accelerated OpenGL will not work
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/, removing from list!
waiting for X server to shut down
but when I run startx from my root account, it has the same at the end, except it says:
AUDIT: Thu Jul 14 14:33:15 2005: 27068 X: client 5 rejected from local host
waiting for X server to shut down
when I try to start up gnome using my user account, it gets so that it readjusts the screen resolution, and I can see the mouse cursor for a split second, as a little black x in the center of the screen, and then it jumps back to the console.
