GDM User

Hi,

I am using Redhat 9. I have modified the XSetup shell script to run an application before login even occurs (so that the application will run on power up and also to avoid security issues). It appears that as this setup script is running, the current user is 'gdm' according to an echo $USER command and then redirecting the output to a log file. Upon reading about this gdm user, it seems as though gdm has basically the same priviledges as root? The idea behind not logging in at all is to prevent any security issues in the first place (and for convenience), so is there a way to ensure that a random user can't break into other things on the computer except see a log-in screen if they exit this application?

Thanks!
