gdb complains about dwarf error

I'm using the Anjuta IDE to write some software, and whenever I try to debug it gdb gives a bucketload of errors complaining about the dwarf reader. I've tried looking through the docs for both gdb and anjuta to no avail. I could try getting a new version of gdb (don't remember the version I'm running right now, and I'm not at home so I can't check) - but does anyone have any idea of what else I should try?
