GCC config Problem!!

Hello,

I was just trying to install gcc on my SuSE 9.2 laptop.. But I always get this error message:

Nectron@linux:~/Documents/Programs/gcc-4.0.1> ./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether ln works... yes
checking whether ln -s works... yes
configure: error: Building in the source directory is not supported in this release.

If you know the solution to this, please tell me what command and options to write, since I'm really confused by now..

First of all, you should read the documentation that came with gcc. If you read it, you would have seen that you have to build/configure it outside of where you unpacked it. Make another directory on the same level as where you unpacked gcc, and go in to it. Then do '../gcc-4.0.1/configure'

To be quite frank, if you didn't know to do this, then you probably have no reason to compile gcc other than because you can.
