gaim doesnt connect behind proxy

I am using gaim 0.68(latest version) with rh 7.3. I am behind proxy and wasnt able to connect to yahoo even after setting. then i used a tunneling s/w and could connect to yahoo thru my local http proxy

Now i want to use gaim to connect to yahoo. I have made the req settings-http proxy=127.0.0.1:9555, then i added my yahoo accct. But still it gives me a message unable to connect.
wt shld i do to connect thru gaim

any help wld be very useful

can i know the tunneling software uhave used?

It's probably got something to do with the fact that AIM doesn't use port 80 or port 8080 (it uses 5190, I think).

Either your tunnelling software isn't handling this properly, or the proxy you are behind is limiting what ports you can use.

I don't know how to fix either of these problems, though. You might wanna try using the "Web Messenger" web interface, available at messenger.yahoo.com (I don't know if this can avoid your problems or not).

A few more ideas:

0.68 is not the newest version of Gaim. 0.76 is. You can download and try the newest version from gaim.sf.net.

Yahoo! has changed their protocal in the past, causing errors similar to yours, though I don't know if they've done so between 0.68 and 0.76. You might want to try using Gaim with AIM or Hotmail to see if it is a Yahoo! problem instead of a problem with the proxy/tunneling (since both of these will use ports besides 80 or 8080 as well).
