FTP Question for Newbie

Thanks in advance for helping.

I have my own server, off at an ISP, Centos, running proftpd.
I have secured most things by learning, and use putty to do all that stuff, only using ssh via putty to do things now.

My question is: how do I upload a file to my server, since I am using proftpd?
I want to upload a product to install, that I have on my PC at home.

Do I need a separate ftp client to upload this file? If yes, or no, how do I accomplish ftp'ing to my server, client or commands?

You will need a client to upload via ftp but if you are using ssh to be secure I would suggest using sftp or scp - ie:
scp /path/to/my_product.file user@server.ip.or.hostname:/path/to/where/you/want/the/file/

Just do it from the command line.

If you are using a windows client you might want to look at using winscp though.
