ftp error between Centos 7.3 and Windows 95

has anyone tried to pull files from a Windows 95 system to a Centos 7.3 system using ftp with an anonymous login? I'm getting a "501 Permission denied" error. the Windows 95 system is running war-ftpd 1.65. any feedback would be appreciated.

Windows 95???!!!

Windows 98, then Windows XP, then Windows Vista, then Windows 7, then Windows 8, then Windows 10 have all been released in the years since Windows 95 was out. It has long been obsoleted and you really need to think about moving on.

Issue is likely firewall settings on the Windows 95 box aren't allowing inbound ftp connections and/or you've not enabled the ftpd daemon.

If you want to transfer files you might think about installing WinSCP (assuming you can still find one for Windows 95) and doing the transfer using sftp protocol from Windows to Linux rather than doing ftp from Linux to Windows.

I agree with the above suggestion but it would be easier if possible to go the other way i.e. run the FTP client on 95 and a FTP server (vsftpd) on the CentOS system.

I don't know that it is easier to setup vsftpd on Linux than to install WinSCP on Windows. I'd not want to setup an ftpd daemon on Linux without extreme need and if I did I'd only allow ftps. Here we finally got rid of our ftp accounts on Linux and allow only sftp. For internal (and external) file transfers from Windows to our servers we have them go install WinSCP as it is free.

Checking just now I found a link that provides old WinSCP version that ran on Windows 95 (they dropped support for Windows 95 as of a later 2012 version):
http://www.oldapps.com/winscp.php?ol...=6574?download

I' haven't used the above site for any downloads myself so can't comment on its reliability.
