font and printing trouble; texts arn't renderd properly

Hi, I seem to have some trouble rendering ps en pdf files both on paper and on screen. I have a screenshot were you can see what goes wrong: screenshot .
I don't even know how to begin to troubleshoot my problem. I printed the page you see in the screenshot and it looks somewhat better on paper but it's still hardly acceptable.
I'm using the cups printing system version 1.1 and postscript version 7.07.1. Together with gimp-print version 4.2
Has any one got an idea what I can do?
