Has anyone managed to get gDesklets to work with Fluxbox? I'm running LFS 5.1.1, and I've compiled and installed about 23 packages to satisfy dependencies, and I've finally got it running.
The problem is that the gDesklets don't work... I've installed the senors and they seemed to install ok, giving me the dialog box saying they are ready to use. Then I start the gdesklets daemon using "gdesklets start" and it starts up ok.
Then, when I go to start a display, I always get an error. For example:
gdesklets open clock.display gives me:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/gdesklets/factory/SensorFactory.py", line 75, in create_sensor
sensor = module.new_sensor(args)
File "./Theme/__init__.py", line 112, in new_sensor
def new_sensor(args): return apply(Theme, args)
File "./Theme/__init__.py", line 31, in __init__
for a in output[0].split():
IndexError: list index out of range
which seems to be a common one. Other displays give me other errors, however, for example:
gdesklets open info.displays gives;
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/gdesklets/factory/SensorFactory.py", line 74, in create_sensor
os.chdir(path)
OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/share/gdesklets/Sensors/CPU'
and
gdesklets open rafclock.display
gives
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/gdesklets/factory/DisplayFactory.py", line 89, in create_display
dsp.new_child(childtype, settings, children)
File "/usr/share/gdesklets/display/Display.py", line 189, in new_child
self.__group = targetregistry.create(childtype, self)
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'create'
Any idea what I'm doing wrong here? I put my sensors in ~/.gdesklets/Sensors and my displays in ~/.gdesklets/Displays -- is this ok?
Any help is appreciated -- I'm about ready to give up on this one.
hmm..at least I've seen some screenshots on the web, in which there was fluxbox with gDesklets. altough I'm not sure if there was Gnome running too, or something..
these errors really just look like basic programming errors, what version of gdesklets are you running? i think that it should technically work on fluxbox ok, it just uses core gnome libraries to function. personally i found gdesklets to be generally unusable despiute being very pretty.
I'm using version 0.30pre.... I could try a different version, I suppose, but from what I understand the errors are occuring in the modules, not in the gdesklet code.
i upgraded from 0.27 to 0.30pre... never worked right after that. since then i presonally abandoned gdesklets and went back to my trusted gkrellm in a slit.
yup, gDesklets do look good..but that's probably the only nice thing about them I tried them too some time ago (on Gnome), but I was unable to get anything else work but the starterbar...and after a while I understood it wasn't that helpful :P
and oh, fluxbox is imo much better without gDesklets. I chose it because I wanted a window manager rather than a desktop-pack, for simplicity...and fluxbox just was the best.
anyway, I still believe gDesklets could be one of those things that truly are good...they just need a lot of improvements yet..
