I know.

Try editing your ~/.wine/config file like this:

[Drive A]
"Path" = "/mnt/floppy"
"Device" = "/dev/fd0"

[Drive D]
"Path" = "/mnt/cdrom"
"Device" = "/dev/cdrom"

---
Don't change anything I didn't tell you to. Try that and tell me if it works.

I had the same exact error that the first poster had. I made the changes you suggested, and Yes, that eliminated the "could not stat" errors on the floppy and cdrom. (Also, Yes, both /mnt/floppy and /mnt/cdrom exist, with 755 permissions on both.)

However, the issue now is that if I try to run something, nothing at all happens. Example, I start in my home directory, type cd c/windows, and I can see that "notepad.exe" is in that directory. If I then enter: wine notepad.exe (and press enter, obviously) I'm expecting to have Notepad open up. Instead, it just hangs; the shell just sits there. I have not used wine before so admittedly I may be overlooking something really basic but if you have any other suggestions or recommendations I'd definitely be interested in hearing them. Overall the installation process seemed to go very smoothly, and I was pretty optimistic that this was going to be a cinch but clearly something's not right. TIA. -- J.W.
