Ok, I FINALLY got Cable Internet (RoadRunner). Just yesterday so needless to say I am still VERY happy about this. My question is about the Firewall. I am running SUSE 8.0 and I set up the Firewall. Also made sure that I did not have any unnecessary things running, like SMTP server and the like.

How secure is this?

Next pay period I am planning on buying a router so I can close off all ports except for my browsing. But, until the end of the month I was wondering if I would be secure while surfing. Being new to linux I am not positive how well the Firewall works.

And I know that anything can be broken into. I just want to make sure I am not sitting out on the web with no protection.

Also I am never logged in as root while connected so even if someone did manage to get in they SHOULD only be able to do minimum damage.

Any comments would be appreciated.
