i was trying to install firefox rpm 1.0.3 on my redhat 8 machine. i got a big list of dependency failures, starting from glibc to a lot others.
now my question is do i have any way of installing it without having to anything about these dependencies? intuitively, this seems a little more towards negative to me, becoz firefox might be using a lot of new features of these upgraded libraries. but just wanted to be sure; either way..
Unfortunately if those dependencies are not met, you can't install the rpm. You will probably find it a bit tedious to install all the necessay depenencies on an old distro like RH 8. You may try installing from the firefox installer available from the Mozilla website.
yeah, its really unfortunate that i cannot install firefox when a windows user can do it easily...
anyway i tried with a compiled binary that was available somewhere..the ./firefox file works, but hardly anything changes other than my bookmarks getting vanished !! anyway, i guess the only solution will be to upgrade!! lets see
This is a problem to do wih your gtk2 dependencies. You could upgrade your version of gtk2, but then you would need to then upgrade a whole heap of dependent apps.
