Firefox freezes at "Save", "Download"

I just downloaded and installed Firefox on my SuSE Pro 9.0 system with Ximian Desktop 2. Galeon was installed with XD2 and I subsequently downloaded and installed Mozilla.

In Firefox, every time I try to save or download any file, Firefox freezes, the window greys-out, and eventually I get a "kill application" message.

Now, not only does trying to "Save" or "Download" freeze Firefox, so does attempting to "Save" and "Download" in Mozilla, too. I'm back to using Galeon, which I would prefer not to use.

I'd appreciate guidance on how to fix this and get Firefox to work for me.

TIA kjmorris

Have you tried a clean profile? Rename ~/.mozilla/firefox to move it out of the way

Andrew - Thanks for your suggestion. I moved both ~/.mozilla/firefox and ~/.mozilla/default and cfreated new users by importing preferences, settings, etc. Unfortunately, the result was the same. kjmorris

Do a #strace on firefox and see if anything interesting shows up.

Please refer to the man pages for strace.

I re-did a clean profile, i.e. I didn't import either bookmarks or preferences during creation of the new profile. Then, I imported the bookmarks only and re-did my preferences. It seems to be working fine now.

Thanks. kjmorris
