File to TIFF Converter

Hello,

For a faxing program, I need all the files in TIFF format. Accordingly, any help finding a command line program that can convert many types of files, such as plain text, MS document and excel, and OpenOffice odt files, into TIFF would be great.

Thanks,
Murdock

Use imagemagick for that. Save as pdf for eg and then use that. Also check the capability of different fax s/w (10+) in Linux.

Thanks!

However, due to the constraints of some of the clients, who can only save in MS doc or xls files, I am wondering if there is some sort command line converter from doc/xls to pdf as well, which can then be converted to TIFF.

Thanks,
Murdock

As the URL name says, you can use Gmail to convert anything to HTML.
After that, it's a simple task of running html2image

Hello Simonapnic,

Using Gmail is an interesting idea, but I need something that can convert from a command line subsequent to the user submitted the fax page, since I can't demand from some of my clients to start changing which applications they enjoy using for productivity.

You can use OpenOffice in command line mode to convert a *.doc or *.xls to PDF.

If it doesn't work like expected, spend some time around on this forum to see tips and tricks. The code syntax changes a bit from one version to the next.

This is THE recommended way of converting .doc to pdf. I experienced one (at the time) undocumented bug. If you are batch processing files, you should wait until the first conversion is completed before you call OO again. I built a delay of 20 second in my loop to achieve that.
