Try just running 'touch' on a file. If it will work,it's just you editor that forces incorrect umask.

About SSH and FTP - read-only FTP is easier to run (probably, HTTP is even easier), and also safer. SSH is safer than usual write-enabled FTP (unencrypted), and also you choose between just scp to get files and full ssh session, which can be handy sometimes. You also can get files you need even if you didn't think you'll need them - even if they are outside you ~.

plz congigure /etc/samba/smb.conf file again, and /home is not right...

RESOLVED:

I was typing a wrong number on my bashrc file: I used to put umask 6, then someone told me to try 'umask 0006' and it worked

Thanks for all.

Now I got another problem to resolve (always with problems!! )... about my webcam (posted under hardware section)
