File accesories at Gnome KDE

Hello!

My question:

Like windows when you start/click a file, for example a word file it will be associated and opened with the program Word

But in linux,
is there a command to use if you want the file to be associated and opened with the correct program?

If so, where can i manage and see the file/program who handle that in linux?

And, if there is no file and so on to handle all this, perhaps we can discuss a script for it and so on ^^

Have a nice day!

Right-click the file.

Properties ==> Open With

push down button for the default app.

Open KDE control center..............find the "file associations" menu............OR also for KDE

right click on a file and select "open with"...........then choose the program from drop down menu and put a Check mark in box to always associate the file with that program..........

not sure how Gnome does things........I don't use it.
