Unhappy Fedora: Couldn't install VLC 1-rc1.

Downloaded the 'vlc-1.0.0-rc1.tar.bz2' from the VLC website. I did everything mentioned in the 'install' file within that folder (after extracting that file), at least what I understood (you see, I'm a novice at linux). I went to that file through the terminal and did the following thing:

./configure

but the problem is that after a while it says:

"configure: error: could not find libmad on your system: you may get it from http://www.underbit.com/products/mad/. Alternatively you can use --dsable-mad to disable the mad plugin."

I did the alternate but later some other similar error comes up...and the errors continue to come one after another.

I tried to do 'make' command but is says:
"make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop."

I don't know what all these means. I just want to listen to my mp3 files on this fedora (soon i'm going for ubuntu) and thought vlc can be a good idea (actually i'm currently running the windows vlc on fedora through wine). If there are other alternatives that can do what vlc can do then plz let me know.

Plz help.

No need to compile vlc on your own. Just add rpm fusion repository and install it from there using yum.

Fedora RPMFusion repository
Fedora VLC
