Question Fedora Core 5 and Mysql 5 - access denied

I have a new FC5 installation and for some unknown reason I am unable to update or change my root login information on the mysql server. There is nothing that I can do to gain access to the mysql database, I've even uninstalled all mysql related packages and reinstalled them with yum, and yet still unable to gain access.

I think there is some app in FC5 that is denying access such as SELinux (that has been disabled) or a similar app that I'm unaware of.

Has anyone ever experienced this issue with FC5 and Mysql5? Anyone have a solution? These secure out of the box installs are great, as long as you can adjust the appropriate permissions quickly. Not the case so far with FC5.

Cheers,
MB

Here is the Fix:

1. Remove all directories and files in /var/lib/mysql/

2. Run mysql_install_db, which recreated the files and directories that were just erased.

3. Restarted mysqld and login as root no password. Grant access rights and assign passwords.

I'm still not sure why a fresh install of FC5 would have this type of problem.
