Why not go with CentOS ? ( http://www.centos.org ). It is the free version of Red Hat Enterprise. It seems to work pretty well for me. The latest version is 4.0. There are some problems with it (it has new security features that are real tough). I have CentOs 3.3 on all of my boxes and it's running more than fine. It sure beats Fedroa Core.
Look...you can't just tell someone to switch distros just because of one little problem. This has been posted on other forums before. This doesn't happen in all Fedora Core 3 installations, but in some it does. There are bugs with the Menu Editor that comes with KDE 3.3 and FC3. I suggest you upgrade to KDE 3.4.
DAMMIT PEOPLE!!! there are newer releases of software in more stable trees.
it's like telling people to upgrade to 2.6.0 instead of 2.4.29 (using kernel versions here) even though the latter is newer and more stable.. oh well.. take no offense, I was a ticking bomb.. you just happened to be the one to set me off.. people have been doing it for a long time..
my point being, there may be newer versions of kde 3.3 (3.3.0 vs 3.3.1) and more stable than any current release of 3.4, no solution here, but I want everyone to be aware of the whacko versioning system that we all love.
also... there are lots of problems with 3.4.. most less annoying than the menu editor bug, but they're there nonetheless.
also, I agree that this is not the appropriate time or place to convert someone to another distro.
