Failed dependencies GNOME base SuSE 9.0

I have down loaded all the rpm's for: GNOME base packages for SUSE LINUX 9.0 (i386).

I issued the command:

rpm -Uhv *.rpm

and got:

error: Failed dependencies:
sox is needed by gnome-media2-2.4.1.1-48
libFLAC.so.4 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-excess-0.6.4-27
libid3tag.so.0 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-extra-0.6.4-27
liblavjpeg-1.6.so.0 is needed by gstreamer-plugins-extra-0.6.4-27
libmysqlclient.so.12 is needed by libgda-1.0.1-47
libpq.so.3 is needed by libgda-1.0.1-47
docbook_4 is needed by scrollkeeper-0.3.12-150

O.K., so I go about finding the missing stuff. Some of the thing I find reduces the list of dependencies and some of the stuff increased the list of dependencies. I'm still looking. But, I can't help but think that there is a better way. Is there a better way than this "hunting and gatering" that I am doing to resolve these dependencies?

Thanks in advance.

I would open YaST2, click on "Install and Remove Software", then change the drop down to "Selections" and check the Gnome Box, then go into the right hand pane and fine tune the selections.

As long as you have a legit source setup in YaST for the download, the program will take care of all of the dependencies for you.

Under KDE, just click on the .rpm and then the Install button in Yast2
(which opens automatically). Yast2 will check all the dependancies and
install what is missing (if the packets come with SuSE 9.0)

But what about 2.6?

That's how I got Gnome installed before, but then I realized it was 2.2.2 and I would like to upgrade to 2.4 or 2.6 A friend tried to convince me to install apt-get but I've had bad experiences in the past. What would the best way of installing a newer Gnome on Suse 9.0?

Thanks in advance,
Kleedrac
