Extracting files from an iso image -- without becoming root

I know it's possible to extract the files in an iso image by using losetup and mount. But those operations require root privilege. Is there a way to extract the files without having root privilege?

Open the image with archive manager and drag files out or simply extract in desired folders, I dont think it needs root privilages.

I tried opening the iso file as an archive with Archive Manager, but I got this message:
Quote:
Error: /mediavault/CD Images/spinrite_v6_boot.iso: Can not open file as archive

I just successfully opened both tinycore_3.6.iso and Fedora-17-i686-Live-LXDE.iso as an ordinary user using file-roller. Are you using a different archive manager?

Use p7zip, it can extract iso filesystems.

What happens when you double click on the iso file. Most disto's now let a user mount them automatically to see the files. Of course it is read only deal.

Try isomaster. There may be other similar tools out there too.

I believe you could probably also use fuse to set up local user mounting. At the very least there's an iso module for it.
