Unhappy ESS Maestro Linux 7.3

I am running Suse 7.3 which has a bug relating to configuring the ESS Maestro sound card. Each time you try to configure the sound card the system crashes. Suse has documentation regarding this on their website but I am not advanced enough to complete the tasks. Have any of you run into this problem and can you provide me with a way to overcome this?

Thanks!

If you post SUSE's documentation, I may be able to provide some help. I know with other distros. you have to download the ALSA drivers available from http://www.alsa-project.org .
