error when trying to run kpowersave

when i try to run kpowersave i get the msg "Failed to open connection to system message bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: Connection refused"

how can i work around this?

my laptop fan is crazy nowdays, when i (rarely) go to windows, its much much quiet. i run top, but there is not any process eating cpu (at most 1%), im hoping maybe powersave will solve this :\

There has been developed a whole science about power control on laptops. But if you search on kpowersave, you might not find what you are looking for.

Better chances are "ACPI power fan control temperature"

It is also possible that the fan control is working all right, but that your CPU clock is not slowed down when doing nothing (99% of the time) You can check CPU speed with ksystemguard.

Search "ACPI CPU speed clock reduction"

It is ACPI which controls the fan on your laptop. You can do it also manually by writing correct values to a correct file.

You might want to start at tuxmobile.org and see what is up with the laptop you have yourself. There are numerous pointers on that site and on the sites of other users posting their experiences.
