Hello everyone, I've just finished a fresh install of Ubuntu 6.06 for an AMD 64, and am trying to install Wine. I tried following Wine's instructions for using Synaptic but recieved an error message upon refreshing

I gave up on that and tried installing from source using this website as a guide since I really have no idea where to begin for compiling from source. I got up to the "./configure" command before I hit problems

well build-essential is not installed by default so you need to install that if you want to compile anything.
setting up a chroot isn't too difficult (I have 3), but if you get stuck just ask.
