Enterpise Linux RPM

Please advise.
Can i use install i386 rpm packages on RedHat Enterprise ES/AS 3.0 ?
Or do i need to complie the i386.src.rpm packages for it to work on ES/AS 3.0 ?
Is there any issues that i would need to consider

Example. http 2.0.50 is already out. but not for ent version yet
So Can i take 2.0.50.src.rpm and compile it on AS 3.0 and install the package ? issit supported by REDHAT ?

Tried installing some i386 rpm packages.
but got some errors such as
Headerread failed region trailer BAD tag yyy type xxx offset zzz count aaa

where yyy,xxx,zzz,aaa = some numbers.

Any binary rpm that you install must have been compiled against the same version of glibc that you have installed on your RedHat Enterprise ES/AS 3.0 system. Since glibc versions are coupled with a corresponding version of the gcc compiler then you can also check the compatibility of binary rpms by checking what version of gcc they were compiled under. If the binary was compiled under the same version of gcc that you have installed then the binary will work. If the binary was compiled on an older version of gcc it will probably work. If it was compiled on a newer version of gcc it will probably not work.

The gcc compiler can be told whether or not to use the additional instructions found in newer PCs when creating a binary. Thus an i386 rpm will work on any PC from 386 or higher. An i486 rpm will work on any PC from 486 or higher. And so on.
