Enabling services on knoppix?

SSH is enabled at boot, but others, such as apache/ftpd arent.

This is knoppix 3.2

I tried both
# service apache start
# chkconfig apache on
nothing....

and locate doesn't bring any results... any ideas how to turn these on at boot?

THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!
