Enabling/Open port 7373 on Ubuntu default installation

I installed a software application, ATTO Configuration Tool v4.1. The tool listens on localhost port 7373, however I receive the message that the connection to localhost (127.0.0.1) port was refused.

I installed the latest Ubuntu with all defaults on a box, and proceeded to upgrade to the latest and greatest version that I could get. I also installed Java, the RAID driver for the ATTO R608 card, and of course the ATTO Configuration Tool v4.1, also the latest.

I am able to see other computers on the network from the ATTO Configuration Tool, so the software installed fine and works. The problem is a security thing or something like that on Ubuntu Linux. I did not install any firewall, so just the default.

I ran "netstat an | grep "LISTEN " and saw three entries, two of which are localhost, but not the port that I want.

The error message is:
The connection to '127.0.0.1:7373' was refused.

How do I open that port?

I read that Ubuntu has all ports closed by default. How do I open that port? How do I solve the problem.

Hi,

there should not be any restrictions on high numbered ports like that. To me it sounds like "ATTO Configuration Tool" did not start cleanly and is not actually listening on port 7373. Are you sure it is running? Does it give any ouput?

Update and Reply from ATTO

I tried a variation on those two links using iptable yesterday, to no avail. I tried the exact format specified in the link mentioned just a few minutes ago and nothing.

I finally heard back from ATTO technical support. We had gone back and forth a few rounds over the past however many days. They finally said that there is a problem and recommended the command line options as a workaround, but did not say exactly what the problem is with the GUI and why it cannot connect. I asked that specific question in my reply, so we shall see what they say.

Here is ATTO's response:

There "is a known issue with Ubuntu and our ATTO Config Tool.

We do however have a work around. When you were installing the Config Tool there should have been some questions about where you would like to install the CLI. The CLI is our command line interface used for all of our ATTO card. Normally this can be found in the /usr/local/sbin folder and a program called atraidcli.

From here you can do the same features that you would if you were using the GUI."

Have you checked to see that your router isn't blocking port 7373.
go to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ & check

The service timed out on port 7373, however I pose that my Windows box works just fine with ATTO, as does the Mac boxes that we have here. Also, Red Hat Linux works great too, as far as I heard. The problem is with Ubunto. Additionally, I am going from the local Ubunto box to my local box, so there is no ISP on "localhost", which is where the problem lies.

Sadly, ATTO Technologies did not respond to me (yet) what the exact technical problem is. It is their software. The problem might be an Ubuntu problem in that Ubuntu does something different than other flavors of Linux (i.e. Red Hat). That would be for ATTO to tell me.
